Humanity’s Cruelty

“Humane”. It is a word that describes “marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals” (source: m-w.com).

Its root word is the Middle English humain, which means “Having human form or ability.”

But take a look around, a honest look. Look, and what do you see? War and frivolity, opulence and famine, civilisation and erosion. And that’s just humanity’s scoresheet against itself. What of the non-humans sharing this planet with us?

What humans inflict on life, makes the word “Humane” an insult, an indictment on the concept of compassion, sympathy, consideration.

Please look at the sub-pages, and you might wonder if “Humane” was not in fact an antonym, filed as a synonym to compassion in a moment of pique by some early linguist with a streak of satorical humour.

But it is not too late. Within each of us, every human has the power to stop this madness. Start caring, and perhaps we can exorcise the stain of being inhumane humans.
